Blizzard Win during Bye Week

2010-05-03 -

Green Bay, WI – Without playing a down this weekend, the Green Bay Blizzard came out a winner after week 10 of the IFL played out. Both the Chicago Slaughter and the Bloomington Extreme lost, broadening the Blizzard lead in the North Central Division. In an important conference game, the Bloomington Extreme (3-5) played lackadaisically as the Omaha Beef (3-4) rolled the Extreme, 25-66.  The Extreme could not accomplish anything on either side of the ball, as Omaha had clear control of this contest from the first snap. In La Crosse, defense was the name of the game as the La Crosse Spartans (1-7) notched their first franchise win over the Chicago Slaughter (3-4) with a 35-29 victory.

These two losses make the May 8th game with Chicago a crucial divisional game because a win for the Blizzard means they control their own destiny as they look for that first North Central Division Championship.

The Blizzard have been keeping everyone on the edge of their seats the last few games as the Blizzard have won the last three games by a total of four points. More dramatic is the last two games the Blizzard won on last second plays. First, Tino Amancio drilled a 29 yard field go as time expired to end a shoot out with the West Michigan ThunderHawks. A week later, it took an astonishing last second grab by Green Bay’s Scott Burnoski at the gun to keep its winning streak alive.

The 2010 Blizzard are officially in the record books for setting the franchise record for best start at 7 and 1.  They passed the 2005 team record of 6 and 1.  Also, the 6 wins in a row passes the 5 wins in a row the 2005 team set.

The Blizzard returns home to play at Online Trading Academy Field in the Resch Center on Saturday, May 8th at 7:05 against the Chicago Slaughter. Blizzard-Slaughter tickets are on sale now and start as low as $8 and are available by calling the Ticket Star box office at 800-895-0071 or visiting Ticket Star's website at www.tickestaronline.com
