Chicago Scores Late to Outlast Blizzard
2010-05-22 - Hoffman Estates, IL: The Green Bay Blizzard (7-3) and Chicago Slaughter (5-5) battled for the second time in two weeks. Once again, the game was decided in the final minute as Chicago scored a late touchdown and held on for a 50-47 victory.
The Blizzard defense opened the scoring when LB Maurice Simpkins intercepted a pass from Slaughter QB Randy Hutchinson and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown. Simpkins had six tackles on the day.
Hutchinson quickly responded with a 47 yard touchdown pass to Jarrett Payton. A missed extra point kept the Blizzard on top 7-6.
Blizzard RB Randy Bell and WR Scott Burnowski scored first half touchdowns and Tino Amancio added two field goals to take a 30-25 lead into the half.
Burnowski added two more touchdowns in the second half, including a one yard catch with a little more than two minutes left in the game to give the Blizzard a 47-43 lead.
Chicago answered when Tavares Woodley ran up the middle for a one yard touchdown and went ahead 50-47 with 43 seconds remaining.
The final drive for the Blizzard ended when QB Jake Phillips fumbled near the 20 yard line and Chicago recovered.
The division foes will meet head to head one more time in 2010 as Chicago heads to the Resch Center on June 19th.
