Richmond Tops Blizzard

2010-05-29 -

The Richmond Revolution extended their league best record (10-1) by edging the Green Bay Blizzard 54-44 Saturday afternoon.  The Blizzard (7-4) dropped their third game in a row and look to rebound as they return home for the final three games of the season.

Ryan McManus got the starting nod at quarterback for the Blizzard. Jake Phillips was not able to play due to a concussion suffered in last week’s game at Chicago. McManus would get his first snap early after linebacker Maurice Simpkins blocked a Revolution field goal attempt on fourth down.  Randy Bell opened the scoring with a one yard touchdown run to put the Blizzard up 7-0. Bell led the Blizzard offense by rushing for 58 yards and four touchdowns along with 33 yards receiving.

Richmond tied the game at 14 when a McManus pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown.  Revolution quarterback Bryan Randall threw three touchdown passes in the first half and rushed for another to give the Revolution a 34-20 lead.  The Blizzard would close the gap to 34-27 before halftime on a Derek Deardorff 17 yard touchdown reception.

Randall would throw three more touchdowns passes in the second half to lead the Revolution offense.  McManus hit Scott Burnowski for a three yard touchdown to pull the Blizzard within three at 47-44 with five minutes left in the game.  But, that would be the last time the Blizzard would score.

The Blizzard return home to Online Trading Academy Field for the final three games of the 2010 regular season.  The home stand begins on Saturday, June 5th against the Wichita Wild at 7:05pm. Group and single game tickets are on sale now by calling (920) 405-1264 or visiting our website www.greenbayblizzard.com.
