About the Green Bay Blizzard
The Green Bay Blizzard is a professional indoor football team and a member of the Indoor Football League (IFL), entering their 22 season as an indoor football franchise. The team is owned by Kathy and Larry Treankler – local business owners in the Green Bay area – who have a passion for sports, entertainment, and giving back to the community. The Blizzard prides itself on being about more than football. As an organization, we are always looking for ways to get better and provide growing opportunities for the team from top to bottom!
Hear From Past Blizzard Interns & Why YOU Should Join the Blizzard Football Family!
Joe Carlson
First and foremost, Carlson quickly learned the #1 rule of the sports industry: things never go exactly according to plan. “I definitely learned how to pick stuff up on the fly,” he said. “On game days, you’re running around putting out fires and trying to help as many people as you can, which translates really well into any job you do. It makes you more comfortable under pressure.”
Carlson’s advice for students considering taking an internship with the team is simple: “Take it, but not unless you’re going to fully commit and try to learn as much as you can. We’ve had interns in the past who took an internship with the Blizzard saying, ‘Oh, it’s a sports team, that’s awesome’ but they don’t truly go all in and try to get the most out of it.”
Game days were Carlson’s favorite part of working for the Blizzard, but he equally enjoyed his time spent in the Blizzard office as well. “One thing I liked about working in sports versus my job now is that every day was different and I was rarely doing the same thing. I loved how it always kept me on my toes.”
Carley Frauenhoff
Her best suggestion for earning the respect of male colleagues in the sports industry is, quote on quote, learning the language. “What I’ve found is being able to speak sports – understanding the sports you’re working in – makes a big difference.”
Frauenhoff said “it was definitely worth it” taking an unpaid internship with the Green Bay Blizzard. “I worked three jobs in college as well as doing the Blizzard internship, so I found ways to make money and still get the professional experience I needed. I gained so much knowledge and exposure to on-field promotions, ticket sales, season tickets, group sales, operations, and so much more,” she recalled.
Along with the hard work, though, came plenty of fun. Reminiscing about her favorite memories from her time as an intern, Frauenhoff described her love for the post-game parties that followed Blizzard home games, when the staff could grab a few drinks and a bite to eat. “I always thought that was so fun, just being able to forget about the chaos of the day and wind down together.”
Hannah Kruse
As a Graphic Design Intern for the Blizzard, Kruse was mainly tasked with sitting in Press Row creating score graphics and posting them on the team’s social media pages before, during, and after the games, as well as updating Twitter, getting photos from photographers, etc. Being on ‘the inside’ on game days helped Kruse learn “a lot about the process of putting on a live sporting event, especially from the social media side” – experience she’d never gotten before.
Kruse’s advice for those considering applying for a Blizzard internship is, “Do it! I had a really great experience and met a lot of wonderful people, some of whom I still get to work with to this day, which is awesome.” Despite no longer being a Blizzard employee, she said she still is and will forever be a Green Bay Blizzard fan. “I love going to Blizzard games. The fans are fun, the games are fun – not just the football, but the halftime stuff, the promotions. It’s such a great experience, and I love bringing my family there.”
