Michael Smith, a defensive end with more than 40 games of experience at the NCAA Division I level, has signed with the Green Bay Blizzard, head coach and general manager Corey Roberson announced.
Smith played at Southern Mississippi University from 2012-2015, making 117 tackles during his collegiate career – including 59 solo stops. He had 13 tackles for loss, five of which were sacks. Smith was named named to the Preseason All C-USA first team in 2015.
“While we continue to stockpile exciting skill position athletes, we obviously also need big, athletic bodies along the line of scrimmage, and Michael certainly fits the bill,” Roberson said. “He played against some big-time programs in college, and we welcome the experience and ability he brings to our program.”
Southern Miss, which competes in Conference USA, regularly plays Power 5 programs in the non-conference portion of its schedule. During his career, Smith played against Alabama (three tackles, including half a sack), Washington (three tackles), Nebraska (six tackles in three games), Mississippi State (five tackles in two games) and Arkansas (three tackles).
In the classroom, Smith was a multi-year Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll member.
Smith aslo spent time in camp with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2016.
