The Blizzard are excited to announce the signing of former CIF interception leader Joe Powell.
Powell (6’1, 190) attended the University of Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference from 2010 – 2013. While there, Powell won Fiesta Bowl, and Tostitos Bowl championships. Coming out of high school, Powell was a four star recruit at receiver and didn't switch to defensive back until the spring of 2011 at Oklahoma. In 2013 Joe transferred to Eastern Illinois and won the OVC championship as a target for former EIU and current 49ers star, Jimmy Garoppolo. Powell graduated from Eastern Illinois in 2015.
In 2016-17 Joe played in the CIF for the Dallas Marshals where he dominated with 78 tackles, 15 solo tackles, 9 interceptions, and 2 kickoff return touchdowns. He was an all conference corner and lead the CIF in interceptions. In 2018, Joe was acquired by the Quad City Steamwheelers and a hand injury did not stop Powell from having 3 interceptions, 2 kickoff returns, and 2 fumble recoveries where one resulted in a 41-yard touchdown.
Powell is a welcomed addition to the talented and newly formed Green Bay Blizzard defensive backfield that is sure to cause chaos for IFL passers this season.
