Blizzard Sweep Quad City

April 8th, 2019

The Green Bay Blizzard defeated the Quad City Steamwheelers in dramatic fashion at the Resch Center on Friday night with a final score of Blizzard 53 and the Steamwheelers 47.

The game started with each team scoring on their first plays and then trading scores back and forth for the entire first half of play.  Each teams defense tightened up with only touchdown in the 3rd quarter resulting in Green Bay 34, Quad Cities 33 heading into the 4th quarter of play.

The first drive of the 4th quarter saw Lenorris Footman score his second rushing touchdown of the game.  Barber added the extra point to give the Blizzard a 41 to 33 lead.  The Steamwheelers came back to score on a 4-yard run by Zavier Steward.  The extra point was missed and the Blizzard maintained a 2 point advantage.

With only 1 minute to play, the Blizzard scored on Keshaun Taylor’s second pass from Footman.  A bad snap on the extra point left the score Green Bay 47 and Quad City 39.  The Steamwheelers then scored again with only 43 seconds left on the clock. They went for the 2 point conversion, which they missed but got a second chance after a holding penalty on the Blizzard. This time they converted to tie the score at 47.  Then with only 20 seconds left and the Blizzard facing a 4th and 1-yard to go, Footman connected with BJ Hill on a crossing route completion to the Steamwheelers 5 yard line.  On the next play and with only 9 seconds on the clock, Footman threw to Taylor again for his 3rd touchdown of the game.  The extra point was missed and the Blizzard had a 6 point lead.  Cody Barber then kicked the ball deep into the Party Pit and the Steamwheelers had one last chance from their own 20 yard line and no time outs. The crowd turned up the noise level causing a false start penalty on Quad City and the next play was a short pass from Hilliard to Steward which failed to stop the clock and the game ended.

Blizzard quarterback Lenorris Footman had his best game of the season rushing for 38 yards and 2 touchdowns and threw for 249 years and 6 touchdowns.  BJ Hill had 110 yards receiving on 9 catches and one TD while Kehsaun Tayler had 73 yards and 3 TD’s.

Green Bay improves their record to (4-2) while Quad City falls to (2-4).  The Blizzard return home this Saturday April 13th
