The Blizzard fell to the defending IFL champion Arizona Rattlers in Week 4, losing a close game in the final minute 37-31.
Green Bay was able to march down the field and control possession in their first two drives, but were unable to find the endzone. However, a 10 play drive resulted in running back Jasen Oden Jr. punching it home for the 2 yard touchdown run to get the Blizzard on the board in the 2nd quarter. With two minutes left in the quarter, the linebacker Josh Francis forced an Arizona fumble and kicker Jordan Endries managed to snag a field goal to shrink the deficit to 20-10 at the half.
The second half was a continuous battle between the two, with both teams going back and forth. Arizona found the endzone first in the quarter with a touchdown pass, but Green Bay quickly retaliated with a pass of their own on the very next play. Quarterback Christian Lemay found receiver Chris Malott open down the sideline for the 24 yard touchdown pass making the score 17-27.
On the ensuing Arizona possession in the 4th quarter, defensive end Brandon Boudreaux popped the ball out of the Rattler running back’s hand into the air and towards the end zone. Linebacker Sean Francis quickly picked it up off the bounce and ran it in to reduce the lead to just three.
Arizona was able to quickly run the ball in for the touchdown on their next drive, but Christian Lemay and Chris Malott made it hard for the Rattlers to gain ground once again. Lemay found Malott cutting to the middle of the end zone for the 11 yard touchdown pass to make the game 34-31 with 10 minutes to play.
The Rattlers extended their lead to 37-31 with a field goal and then forced a fumble by Green Bay. But, in their second attempt at a field goal, Brandon Boudreaux blocked it to give the Blizzard one last possession and the chance to win.
Unfortunately, Lemay threw short of his receiver and was picked off in the last minute to end the game 37-31.
The Blizzard were 8 for 12 on third down conversions and ran for 103 yards. Chris Malott had two touchdowns and 47 yards receiving, and Josh Francis had 7 tackles and a forced fumble.
Green Bay will return home to the Resch Center Saturday night to face the Sioux Falls Storm for Youth Jersey Night presented by Aurora BayCare, BayCare Eye Specialists and WFRV channel 5!
