The Blizzard will travel to Des Moines for a rematch of week one against the Barnstormers at Wells Fargo Arena.
Iowa currently has a 4-2 record and are third in the standings. They are coming off a bye week and are looking to improve after their last win against the Nebraska Danger. Over the course of the season, the Barnstormers has had a dominate offense that ranks second in the IFL with 239.7 yards per game. One of the major factors in this is quarterback Drew Powell who currently sits at third in the league for passing yards per game (138.2) and first in rushing (67.6). Powell’s top receiver has been Brady Roland, who has snagged seven touchdowns and is second in receiving yards per game (60.2).
The Iowa defense is second in the league with giving up only 35.5 points per game and league the lead in rush defense with only allowing 58.8 to their opponents. Iowa is tied for first in interceptions with seven and have two sacks on the season. Linebacker Zachary Allen anchors the defense with 7.8 tackles per game.
Green Bay are coming off a loss to the defending champion Arizona Rattlers last week, in which the team saw the debuts of new head coach Corey Roberson, quarterback Bryan Hicks, and linebacker Akim Francis. Hicks threw for 151 yards and went 11-16 with one touchdown. Running back Serge Trezy ran for 67 yards and also one touchdown on 11 attempts. However, B.J. Hill was the star player for Green Bay as he ran back two kickoffs for touchdowns for 234 yards, which is the third most in IFL history. Also, Akim Francis recorded the first interception of the season for the Blizzard and had six tackles on the day.
Bryan Hicks looked to be effective through the air in his first game and will need to do the same against the tough Iowa pass defense. At the same time, the Blizzard defense will need to break the momentum of Drew Powell with linebackers Akim Francis and Brandon Boudreaux needing to stop him from effectively running the ball. Green Bay suffered from 11 penalties last game and will want to limit them at Iowa.
As always, B.J. Hill will be determined to continue his dominate season and be a threat on every kickoff against the Barnstormers. He will also need to be elusive on defense and defend against wide receiver Brady Roland and the athletic Barnstormer receivers.
Kickoff is at 7:05 from Des Moines!
