Preview: Week 5 - Storm vs. Blizzard

March 23rd, 2018

Storm Look for 3 Straight

Sioux Falls are 2-1 on the young season and are looking to continue the momentum from their last game against Iowa.  The Storm handed Iowa their first loss of the season 52-40 behind the dynamic force of their pass game. The Storm had 267 yards of total offense, with 241 coming from the air. Quarterback Lorenzo Brown was awarded IFL Offensive Player of the Week by completing 22-26 passes with 4 touchdowns.  He currently leads the league with a 70% completion percentage and has yet to throw an interception. Wide receiver Brandynn Clark lead the team with two touchdown catches and Mike Tatum caught 8 passes for 90 yards.

On the defensive side, the Storm tallied an interception and defended the dangerous Iowa pass game with an interception and a sack.  Defensive lineman Chris Martin had 7 tackles with one tackle for loss. The Storm held Iowa to just 3 out of 9 third down conversions and 9 out of 19 pass completions.

Home Support for the Blizzard

Green Bay will return home for the first time since Week 1 and are coming off a tough three game road trip.  The Blizzard lost their fourth game of the season last week against the Arizona Rattlers 37-31, but showed signs of improvement.  The Blizzard defense forced two fumbles against the defending champions and also blocked a field goal. Defensive lineman Brandon Boudreaux had a strong performance with 7 tackles, two for loss, and one forced fumble that lead to a touchdown.  Linebacker Josh Francis also proved difficult for Arizona as he had 7 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble as well.

Offensively, quarterback Christian Lemay and wide receiver Chris Malott shined together.  Lemay and Malott connected for two touchdowns and 47 yards. Jasen Oden Jr. ran 19 times for 55 yards and a touchdown.  The Blizzard put together multiple deep and effective drives in the game, but turnovers seemed to plague the team all night.  Lemay threw three interceptions and the team fumbled the ball twice.

What to Look for

The Storm are coming off of an impressive win against the Barnstormers and are looking to be one of the premier teams in the league.  Quarterback Lorenzo Brown has the hot hand right now and will look to find his receivers against the Blizzard secondary.

For the Blizzard, they will be exploring for the answer offensively by giving quarterback Raymond Cotton the start and by bringing in running back Serge Trezy.  Cotton got some playing team in week 3 against the Danger, in which he ran for 51 yards and a touchdown. He will look to lead the team in the air against the quick Storm safeties.  Trezy will be a new addition to the team and is eager to add some spark to the run game. He played for University of Wisconsin in college and shined during the Blizzard scrimmage game during training camp.  Look for the Blizzard to switch up the rush with the power of Oden Jr. and the speed of Trezy to keep the Blizzard on their toes.

Lastly, look for the Blizzard crowd to be a factor in the game as they will be loud and energetic right from kickoff at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Resch Center!
