Week 13 Preview: Blizzard Look to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive in Nebraska

May 18th, 2018

The Blizzard will travel to Grand Island to take on the Nebraska Danger in week 13 of the season.

Nebraska is coming off a 40-36 loss against the Sioux Falls Storm in which they came close to pulling off a comeback.  The Danger fell behind early in the first quarter, but kept the game close until the final moments of the game. Quarterback Gregory Hankerson Jr. had a nice game with 106 yards and four touchdowns, while also leading the team in rushing with 65 yards.  Running back Angelo Please had three touchdowns on the day with one coming from the ground and two from the air.

The Danger defense limited the Storm to just 3 for 8 on third downs and linebacker Nakevion Leslie recorded his first interception of the season.  Defensive back Darion Monroe continued his dominate season with a 10 tackle performance and currently sits second in the league in tackles per game.  The team also had four tackles for loss on the day and stopped the Storm on fourth down twice. Eight penalties hurt the Danger and kicker Brad Hatfield was 0 for 3 on field goals.

For Green Bay, nothing really clicked for them as they fell 62-26 to the Arizona Rattlers last week.  The Blizzard offense could not get anything going as they threw three interceptions on the day and only threw for 43 yards in the air.  The Rattlers also sacked the Blizzard quarterbacks three times and held the Blizzard on third down seven times. Running back B.J. Hill was the bright spot for the team as he ran 17 times for 91 yards and a touchdown.  He also returned six kickoffs for 93 yards.

The Blizzard defense were unable to stop the Rattler passing game as quarterbacks Jeff Ziemba and Verlon Reed accounted for seven touchdowns.  Josh Jenkins lead the team with seven tackles and Akim Francis had six tackles and one for loss. Jimmy Jean and Robert Metz combined for the one sack of the game and kicker Jeff Budzien was two for three on field goals.

The Blizzard defeated the Danger in their last matchup and will look to repeat this same outcome on Friday. Quarterback Bryan Hicks will need to get his accuracy back on track if Green Bay wants to beat the Danger again.  In addition, the defense will have to defend the pass and especially wide receiver Eric Thomas, who leads the league in receiving touchdowns.

Kickoff is at 7:05 p.m. in Nebraska!
