With last Saturday’s dominating performance against the Cedar Rapids River Kings in Iowa, the Green Bay Blizzard have clinched a home playoff game for the first time since 2012. The game will be Friday night June 21 at the Resch Center. The opponent will be determined on Saturday night as there are 3 teams still fighting for the last 2 playoff spots.
One team will win a playoff spot outright as the Quad City Steamwheelers travel to Arizona to take on the Tucson Sugar Skulls on Saturday night. Both teams have identical 6 and 7 records and the winner will advance to the playoffs. The third team is the Nebraska Danger. They also have a 6 and 7 record and will be traveling to Des Moines to play the 12 and 1 Iowa Barnstormers. Should Nebraska win that game, they will also be in the playoffs. Should Nebraska lose to the Barnstormers, they would also need Quad City to beat Tucson as the Danger have the tie-breaker over the Sugar Skulls. If Nebraska loses and Quad City loses, the Danger will be out of the playoffs.
The Blizzard host the 1 and 12 Cedar Rapids River Kings at the Resch Center on Saturday night for the final tune up before the playoffs. The River Kings are coached by former Blizzard coach Mark Stoute.
Saturday’s game will be Military Appreciation night sponsored by Nicolet Bank, Brew Pub Pizza and WFRV TV Local 5. The first 2000 fans will receive red, white and blue Rally Towels. All past and present service men and women will receive a free ticket to the game. It’s a buy-one-get-one free large Bud Light night too. There will also be a Block Party before the game sponsored by Thrivent Financial and Live Generously. The party will be from 4 to 6 and includes food, games, music and more. Doors open at 6 and kickoff is at 7:05.
