Game Preview: GREEN BAY VS MASSACHUSETTS

The Green Bay Blizzard will look to get back into the win column when they take on the Massachusetts Pirates on Friday, May 5. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. at the Resch Center. 

Green Bay (2-3) is coming off of a week 7 bye. The Blizzard fell to the Sioux Falls Storm, 47-55, in a back-and-forth game the last time they were in action. Errors at inopportune times cost Green Bay the win in front of the biggest crowd in Blizzard history. 

Quarterback Ja'rome Johnson has become a dual threat for Green Bay. Johnson threw for 162 yards and 3 touchdowns, and added 120 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground against Sioux Falls. 

After starting the season 2-0, Massachusetts (3-2) has dropped 2 of their last 3 games. The Pirates enter the matchup coming off of a 56-26 home win against the Iowa Barnstormers. 

The Blizzard and Pirates faced off in week 2 of the 2023 season, with Massachusetts emerging victorious, 55-41. It was a tale of two halves for both teams. The Pirates took a 31-7 lead into halftime, but Green Bay outscored Mass 34-24 after the break. 

Pirates starting QB Alejandro Bennifield – the 2021 United Bowl MVP – was placed on short term IR following their win over Green Bay and has not played since. 

The Blizzard defense will look to hone in on Pirates running back Jimmie Robinson, who rushed for 74 hard-fought yards and 2 touchdowns in their first matchup. In Massachusetts' most recent game against Iowa, Robinson gashed the Barnstormers for 163 yards and 6 touchdowns.
