Game Preview: Massachusetts Pirates at Green Bay Blizzard

The Green Bay Blizzard (0-0) begin the 2024 season against the Massachusetts Pirates (0-0) in their home opener at the Resch Center this Sunday, March 17th at 3:05 PM CST.

The Blizzard ended last season with a 7-8 record. Green Bay narrowly missed a playoff berth, but the season was highlighted by a 4-3 home record, three victories over the Iowa Barnstormers, and a franchise-first road win in Sioux Falls.

Massachusetts was 9-7 last season. Despite being an impressive 7-0 at home, the Pirates struggled on the road, going 2-7. Massachusetts' season concluded with four road losses, including a tough playoff loss to the Sioux Falls Storm.

Green Bay and Massachusetts have faced each other six times in their history, with the Pirates leading the all-time series 4-2. The last time they met, the Blizzard lost in heartbreaking fashion at home when the Pirates scored a 2-point conversion in Overtime to win 50-49. Green Bay's last win against the Pirates came in Week Five of the 2022 season. A game filled with highlight-reel plays and a 14-point comeback was sent into overtime on a last second touchdown pass to Dez Stewart. The Blizzard capped the game with a one-yard touchdown run from Quarterback Jack Sheehan in Overtime.

Green Bay is returning vital players such as Quarterback Max Meylor and Defensive Back Ravarius Rivers. Last season, Meylor appeared in 11 games throwing 1,240 yards, and 23 touchdowns. Rivers was voted team Defensive MVP after having 79 tackles, and 2 interceptions in 12 games this past season. Massachusetts is returning Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield along with one of his favorite targets, Isaac Zico. Bennifield appeared in 6 games with 433 yards and 8 touchdowns, while Zico had 945 yards and 21 touchdowns in 15 games for the Pirates in 2023.

The Blizzard will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day in style on Sunday! The team will be decked out in green, and encourage fans to do the same. Wear your green gear and help turn the Resch Center the color of the Emerald Isle! Be on the lookout for green food and drink specials around the arena as well.

The Blizzard have partnered with Schreiber Foods and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to give away free tickets! For every two non-perishable food items donated prior to the game in the Resch Center lobby, fans can receive one free ticket, while supplies last!  Additionally, the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a St. Patrick's Day-themed Blizzard rally towel, courtesy of Ken's Sports Inc.!
