The Green Bay Blizzard (3-1) are home again this Friday, April 26th when they matchup against the Iowa Barnstormers (0-4) for the second time this season. Kickoff at the Resch Center is at 6:05 PM CST.
The Blizzard enter this week on a roll, winning three games in a row, including last week's victory over Sioux Falls. The 48-35 win, on the heels of Quarterback
Max Meylor's six-touchdown performance, is just the third win over the Storm in Blizzard franchise history.
The Barnstormers come into this game off a tough loss at home to the Arizona Rattlers. Although down by two scores at half and behind by 15 points going into the fourth quarter, Iowa fought until the end, falling just short, 49-47.
This is the second of three battles between Green Bay and Iowa this season. The first time these two teams saw each other, the Blizzard won by a two-score margin. In a back-and-forth dogfight, Green Bay scored three unanswered touchdowns late in the second half and went on to win 35-24. That victory brought the Blizzard's all-time record against the Barnstormers within two games, with Iowa still holding a narrow advantage of 15-13.
In order for Green Bay to come away with a win this week, they will need to tame Quarterback Kyle King. This past week against Arizona, King threw for 171 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 46 yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Blizzard will also need to cover Wide Receiver Quian Williams like a blanket. Williams had 85 yards and two touchdowns against the Rattlers. On the defensive side, Green Bay will have to watch out for Jefferson Fritz, who leads the IFL in tackles this season.
For Iowa to secure their first win of the season, they will obviously need to keep a keen eye on Quarterback
Max Meylor. The Iowa secondary will have to stick like glue to Blizzard Wide Receiver Lowell Patron, Jr.. Lowell had 104 yards on six receptions and two touchdowns last week, earning him Green Bay Blizzard Player of the Week honors. The Barnstormers offensive line will have to stand tall against Green Bay defensive lineman
Rafiq Abdul-Wahid, who had two sacks and a fumble recovery against the Storm. Iowa is probably wondering who they will see at linebacker. Could it be
LJ Lovelace Jr., a defensive lineman who played linebacker and had two sacks against Sioux Falls or could it be
Jaylan Alexander who had four tackles and an interception? Green Bay also signed linebacker
Marquis Hendrix this week who may also appear.
Friday night is Yooper Night!! The Blizzard will celebrate their neighbors to the north in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan by giving the first 1,000 fans through the gates a U.P. inspired flannel hat presented by Riverside Pizzeria and Scott's Subs. Also, the first 500 fans through the gates will receive a Pasty Nugget from Pasty Corner in Iron River, MI. Friday night is going to be a snow day! Every time the Blizzard score a touchdown, it will snow from the rafters of the Resch Center! Halftime will feature a performance by the green bay elite cheer squad and our traditional Snowstorm football toss. After the game, join players and coaches on the field for our ever-famous 5th Quarter!
