In Week 7 of the IFL, the Green Bay Blizzard won their fourth straight game by beating the Iowa Barnstormers once again. This was the second time these two teams met this season, and it turned out to be another tough night for Iowa, who are still looking for their first win. Green Bay showed they were the better team once more.
The game kicked off with Green Bay taking early control as they swiftly moved down the field. QB
Max Meylor led the charge, capping the drive with a touchdown to put the Blizzard ahead 7-0. Iowa quickly countered on their first possession with a touchdown run by WR Quian Williams, evening the score at 7-7. The first quarter continued to be a back-and-forth battle, until Green Bay pulled ahead once more. This time, WR
Harry Ballard III made a spectacular catch on a deep pass from Meylor, giving the Blizzard a 14-7 lead.
The second quarter started with a 38-yard field goal attempt by Iowa's Gabe Rui, but it was blocked by Green Bay and recovered by DB Kevin Ransom. Green Bay quickly capitalized on the turnover with WR
Demetrius Moore catching a touchdown pass from QB
Max Meylor, pushing the score to 20-7. Despite several defensive penalties giving Iowa extra chances, Green Bay held their lead. Iowa managed to cut into it with a touchdown pass to Quian Williams, making it 20-14. Later, a key interception by Green Bay's Cytnell Williams set up another Meylor rushing touchdown, extending their lead to 27-14. The half ended with Blizzard kicker
Andrew Mevis nailing a 41-yard field goal, bringing the score to 30-14.
The third quarter kicked off with Iowa mounting a lengthy 6-minute drive, fueled by yet another defensive penalty against Green Bay. Iowa capitalized on the opportunity with a field goal, bringing the score to 30-17. Green Bay's initial possession of the half was brief, resulting in a three-and-out and a missed 58-yard field goal attempt by Mevis. Iowa, refusing to back down, clawed their way back into contention as RB Rob Washington punched in a touchdown, narrowing the margin to 30-23.
The fourth quarter commenced with Green Bay notching a field goal just a minute in, extending the Blizzard's lead to 33-23. As the quarter progressed, Iowa managed to stay within striking distance with a successful field goal by Rui, bringing the score to 33-26. The resilient Blizzard responded once more, with Meylor finding Moore for his second receiving touchdown of the day, pushing Green Bay ahead by two scores at 40-26. Iowa, facing a critical fourth-and-goal situation, kept the game suspenseful as Quian Williams crossed the goal line once again for the Barnstormers, shaving the Blizzard lead to just 7 points. With only two timeouts left for Iowa and 56 seconds on the clock, they attempted an onside kick but were penalized for being offside, ultimately sealing Green Bay's victory at 40-33.
Next week, the Green Bay Blizzard (4-1) hit the road once again to take on the Sioux Falls Storm (0-4) for the second time this season. Green Bay is eyeing a fifth consecutive win, a milestone yet to be achieved in franchise history. Meanwhile, the Sioux Falls Storm are determined to even the season series at one victory apiece, setting the stage for an intense rematch.
For Iowa (0-5), the quest for their first win of the season carries on as they head back home to take on the Quad City Steamwheelers (2-2). The Barnstormers are set to battle it out on their home turf, hoping to finally notch a victory and turn their season around. Their matchup against the Steamwheelers adds even more excitement as Iowa aims to break their losing streak.
