In this Week 4 clash, the Green Bay Blizzard embarked on their first road trip of the season to face off against the Quad City Steamwheelers, setting the stage for a showdown filled with unexpected turns and electrifying moments.
The game kicked off with the Blizzard introducing
Skyler Perry as their starting quarterback for the first time this year, and Perry wasted no time making his presence felt. With a daring rush, he notched the game's opening score and his first touchdown of the season, propelling the Blizzard to an early 7-0 lead as the first quarter was winding down.
Not to be outdone, Quad City's resilience shone through when kicker Kyle Kaplan sliced through the tension with a field goal, narrowing the gap to 7-3 early in the second quarter. However, Green Bay's Jalyn Cagle quickly sucked the air out of the building when he bulldozed his way to two touchdowns, stretching the Blizzard lead to a commanding 20-3.
The Steamwheelers, fueled by determination, found their rhythm as quarterback Judd Erickson connected with Keyvan Rudd for a 14-yard touchdown pass, cutting into the deficit and setting the halftime score at 20-10.
As the third quarter unfolded, the teams exchanged ferocious blows. Quad City's Edward Vander charged through the Blizzard defense for an 11-yard touchdown, whispering promises of a comeback at 20-17. But Green Bay's Perry, cool under pressure, found
Harry Ballard III for a 4-yard touchdown pass, keeping the Steamwheelers at bay. Quad City, looking to mount a comeback, made it a two-point game as Erickson completed a two yard touchdown pass to Rudd to make it 26-24.
The drama intensified in the final quarter, dominated by a defensive masterclass from both teams, with the scoreboard frozen until the closing moments. Perry emerged as the Blizzard's hero, securing his second rushing touchdown of the game with just 1:39 left, sealing a hard-fought 32-24 victory for Green Bay in the heart of Moline, IL.
As the Blizzard (2-1) look forward to their second bye week of the season, anticipation builds for their return against the Sioux Falls Storm (0-2) on April 19th, promising an unforgettable Kids Night at the Resch Center.
Meanwhile, Quad City (1-1) sets its sights on a challenging journey to Frisco (2-0) to face the Fighters, as they try to bounce back after a tough home loss to the Blizzard.
