The Green Bay Blizzard (5-2) clash with the Frisco Fighters (6-1) in an Eastern Conference showdown this Saturday, May 18th. Kickoff at the Resch Center is scheduled for 3:05 PM CST.
The Blizzard are coming into this week's matchup on a high note after a home win, knocking off the Tulsa Oilers last Saturday. Green Bay's top-ranked defense was the story in this one, only allowing three touchdowns and a field goal while adding two sacks and a fourth down stop late in the fourth quarter. The Blizzard put up 42 points as they toppled the Oilers 42-22.
Frisco comes into this battle after a convincing win at home over the Jacksonville Sharks. In a tight game after the first quarter, the Fighters blew open the game, scoring 34 points in the second quarter. They carried that momentum until the end, winning 68-33.
Green Bay and Frisco have gone head-to-head four times since the Fighters joined the league in 2020, with Frisco boasting a 4-0 record. In the four losses to the Fighters, the Blizzard allowed 38 points or more. This season, however, the Green Bay defense has only allowed 38 or more points once, which came in the Week 1 loss to Massachusetts.
If Green Bay wants to secure their first win against Frisco, they will need to prepare for both quarterbacks, as there is a question of who will get the start. TJ Edwards, the reigning IFL MVP, leads the IFL in rushing touchdowns (19) and is second in rush yards (306) despite sustaining an injury two weeks ago, which has kept him out of the starting spot the last two games. Larry "Tripp" Harrington has accounted for ten total touchdowns and two victories since stepping in for Edwards. Green Bay will also have to watch out for ball-hawking defensive back Lionell McConnell, who is tied for the league lead in interceptions with five. Defensive back Norris Wrenn also needs to be watched under close eye. In Week 3, he had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and an interception; this earned him Week 3 IFL Defensive Player of the Week honors.
If Frisco wants to head home with a victory, they will need a good game plan for Quarterback
Max Meylor, who is third in the IFL in rushing touchdowns (14) and fourth in scoring with 84 total points. The Fighters will have to know where wide receiver
Harry Ballard III is on the field at all times. Ballard III had 81 receiving yards and three touchdowns last week against the Oilers, which earned him Green Bay Blizzard Player of the Game honors. Frisco will also have to come up with an answer for the Green Bay defense, which is ranked first in the IFL in points allowed (228). A big part of the Blizzard defense is defensive lineman
Scean Mustin, who leads the IFL in tackles-for-loss (10.5).
This Saturday, the Blizzard celebrate their annual Faith and Family Day! With your ticket, you will get to experience the game and the post-game concert featuring Terrian! Terrian is an American contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter, appearing as a vocalist with TobyMac and the DiverseCity band, currently on tour for the 2024 "TobyMac Hits Deep Tour." Terrian has found success with her solo project as well. Three of her singles have cracked the Top 40 on the Christian Airplay chart in Billboard Magazine. Families can enjoy $2 hot dogs and $2 sodas all game long. Come out for an afternoon of Faith, Family, and Green Bay Blizzard Football!
