The
Green Bay Blizzard (4-1) travel to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, SD this week, where they face off against the
Sioux Falls Storm (0-5) this Friday, May 3rd. Kickoff is at 7:05 PM CST.
Green Bay comes into this week's matchup fresh off a win over the Iowa Barnstormers. The game was close throughout and was highlighted by an amazing 37-yard touchdown catch by
Harry Ballard III.
Max Meylor delivered the bomb to Ballard III, who reeled in a one-handed catch for the score, a play that earned the number one spot on SportsCenter's Top 10. The final score was 40-33 and gave the Blizzard their second win over the Barnstormers this season, which clinched the season series, with one duel remaining between the two.
Sioux Falls hosts this week's matchup after falling short to the Massachusetts Pirates in the inaugural Fargo Gridiron Classic in Fargo, ND. The game was close in its entirety with four lead changes and neither team leading by more than a two-score margin. In the end it was Massachusetts who snuck away with the win, 43-38.
This week's showdown will mark the second time these two teams have faced each other in the last three weeks. Green Bay was victorious in the Week 6 battle, largely due to an exemplary six-touchdown performance from Quarterback
Max Meylor. Since the Blizzard's first win against the Storm in 2022, Green Bay is 3-3 against Sioux Falls. The Blizzard are looking for their second-ever win on the road in Sioux Falls after achieving the first in 2023.
For Green Bay to come home with a win, they will first need to contain Quarterback Billy Hall. Hall is a dual threat Quarterback, leading the IFL in rushing yards this season and will surely try to attack both through the air and on the ground. The Blizzard will also have to watch out for some trickery by the Storm. The last time these two teams met, Sioux Falls defensive lineman Claude Davis lined up in the offensive backfield and caught a touchdown pass. On the defensive side, Green Bay will need to keep close watch on Linebacker Amin Black, who is third in the IFL in tackles this season.
For Sioux Falls to add a mark in the win column, they will need to limit Running Back and return man
Jalyn Cagle. Cagle leads the IFL in return yards with 513 and average per return with 23.3. Obviously Quarterback
Max Meylor needs to be kept in check week-in and week-out. The Storm will also have to come up with a good game plan for the Green Bay defense. The Blizzard lead the IFL in Sacks,Touchdowns Allowed, Points Allowed per Game, and is tied for most fumble recoveries.
Ravarius Rivers was a staple on defense against Iowa, where he led the team in tackles and earned the honors of Green Bay Blizzard Player of the Week.
Just because the Blizzard is on the road this week, doesn't mean you have miss out on any of the action. Replay Sports Bar and Grill (1731 Ft Howard Ave, De Pere, WI) will be hosting a watch party Friday night! If you can't make it out, no worries as you can also stream the game on
