Marquel Willis, a former Green Bay Blizzard wide receiver, is back as the team’s wide receivers coach.
After six seasons with the Blizzard, which began in 2012, Willis is making a return to Green Bay. In his final season with the team, he achieved second-team All-IFL honors and was named the team MVP. In the 2017 season, Willis finished sixth in the IFL in receptions, second in receiving yards, and second in receiving touchdowns.
Willis joined the Blizzard after completing his collegiate career at Coastal Carolina University, after transferring from The Citadel after his freshman season. At Coastal, he helped lead the Chanticleers to their fourth Big South Conference Championship and their first home playoff game in school history. He finished his career with the fourth-most receiving yards, tied for the fifth-most receptions, and the third-most receiving touchdowns all-time at Coastal.
After graduation, Willis began coaching as a student volunteer with Coastal Carolina in the wide receivers room. He also coached wide receivers at Green Bay Southwest while still playing. After retiring, he coached three seasons at Charlotte Latin High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. During his first season, he helped lead the team to a state championship. He also worked at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and most recently, Bishop England High School in Charleston, South Carolina, where he served as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator. At Bishop England, he coached the school’s first 1,000-yard receiver in program history.
